Welcome! This handbook is put together to give important information and answer questions you may have about our school. We hope it gives you an understanding of who we are, what we do, and most of all, why we do it.
Who are Seventh-day Adventists?
Why do they have private schools?
The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a world-wide Protestant denomination founded upon the belief that Jesus Christ is Creator and Savior as revealed in the Holy Bible. Adventists believe that salvation comes only through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and His grace alone. Because of this fact, we believe that we are to live lives that express joyful gratitude and live for what Jesus has done. Our greatest desires are to grow closer to Jesus and serve others. For these reasons, Adventists have operated Christian schools for over 100 years. These schools provide an atmosphere where young people can strive for spiritual, academic, physical, and social excellence in a caring environment.
To teach our students to surrender daily to the Holy Spirit, live the love, acceptance, and forgiveness of Jesus Christ, and attain academic excellence.
The Adventist Christian School is committed to the education of young people for active service to God, family, and community. Our goal is for students to be successful in their studies, manage their behavior, and gain a better understanding of God. This success is reached when students, parents, and faculty work together as a team to give support and guidance to each other. Participation, trust, cooperation, and communication are the four essential cornerstones that enable the school to fulfill its mission.
Although the Adventist Christian School is operated primarily for the youth of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, non Adventist students are welcome. Admission of all students wishing to enroll in the school is based on the following satisfactory evidence:
1. Approval of all the applicant’s forms/records by the appointed school board.
2. Financial support.
3. Medical report. (Immunization forms must be on file with the Principal.)
4. Cumulative folder/report card from last school attended. (No grade can be given to a student until all his/her records from other schools are on file with the Principal.)
5. Student willingness to cooperate with the school’s standards and programs.
6. First Graders: Student must be six years old by September 1st. (However, the school board recommends that the student be age seven.)
7. New student interview with teachers and board members.
The Adventist Christian School admits all students of any race, color, nationality, and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded.

I accept that my enrollment at the Adventist Christian School is a privilege. I pledge myself to actively apply the Code of Ethics to my life. I also choose to live by the guidelines of this handbook and any other regulations which may be deemed necessary by the Administration or School Board.
Standards and Regulations
For the best atmosphere of growth and safety, we ask that students refrain from each of the following behaviors:
· Using profane language, disrespectful talk, or
· Using tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs of any kind
· Stealing, cheating, or dishonesty
· Entering restricted areas of the school without
· Willful damage to school property or the property of others
· Verbal and/or physical harassment of fellow
If a student is having behavioral or academic difficulties, the assistance of a support team may be utilized. This team will work together for the success of the student. However, if a student is not willing to be trustworthy, respectful, or cooperative, he/she will be asked to stay out of school for a period of time. If this process is not successful in improving student behavior, then, with much regret, the student may be subject to permanent dismissal. Every effort will be made to keep the student in school. Students bringing weapons such as knives, guns, explosives, etc. to school will be suspended.
4-Step Formula for a Winning Team
Almost any problem or difficulty can be overcome, whether it is academic, behavioral, or spiritual when students, parents, and faculty regularly put into practice this formula for success:
1. Admit (Honesty): Face that which is true about what you did, or didn’t do, and what is difficult to do or understand.
2. Submit (Willing Heart): Accept help, guidance, consequences, limits, encouragement, and trust.
3. Commit (Make a choice): Clearly decide to change or make improvement.
4. Transmit (Share it freely): Do what you decided and said you would do. Give to others what you know and believe.
Finding positive solutions to problems is always the goal of a grievance policy. Our policy has several simple steps.
Students have a similar grievance policy.
- If you have a problem with a staff member, talk to them directly to find a positive solution.
- If you cannot find a solution, talk to the principal/head teacher.
- If you still cannot find an acceptable solution, talk to the school board chairman.
- If that does not lead to a positive solution bring the issue, in writing, to the school board for resolution
- Talk to the teacher in a calm way at a neutral time about the issue.
- If you feel the teacher is not listening to you and a solution cannot be found, ask a trusted adult to talk to the teacher for you.
- If you still cannot find a solution have the adult talk to the school board chairman.
- If that does not lead to an acceptable solution take the issue, in writing, to the school board.
Recreation and Amusement
Parents and students are encouraged to apply the school mission statement in choosing entertainment and amusements. Our desire is to honor and respect Jesus and others in all things.
Dress Code/Uniform Policy
In accordance with the overall goal of promoting excellence in behavior and education, while reducing distractions, the Adventist Christian School Board has adopted the following Uniform Policy. Please read the policy carefully. It is the responsibility of the student and the parents or guardians of the student to be familiar with and follow the uniform policy. Should you have any questions, please contact the Adventist Christian School (ACS) office or Principal. Uniform components may be mixed and matched as you like. All logo items must be purchased through the Adventist Christian School for conformity.

Uniform items are available to be purchased from the JC Penney School catalog, the Land's End School Uniforms catalog or other appropriate retailers such as Wal-Mart and K-Mart. Please note that not all items in the catalogs are part of the Adventist Christian School uniform policy, only those that fit the specifications stated below.
Navy Blue or khaki-colored, cotton/cotton blend twill pants (khaki includes shades of tan only, not white, grayish, or greenish). Classic style with plain, or pleated, front. Straight-leg, no extreme wide or tapered, cuffs optional (see example in ACS office). Interior pockets only (no patch, exterior, or cargo style pockets). Front zipper only. No cargo loops, rivets, zip-off legs, drawstrings, etc. Pants must be appropriately sized and worn appropriately at the waist. Pants must be hemmed, free of rips or tears, and in good condition.
Capris and shorts must fit criteria of pants above. Shorts length is to be no more than 4" above the kneecap.
White, navy blue, or burgundy (wine color)
polo, long or short sleeve (no logo).
White, navy or burgundy Oxford style dress shirt, long or short sleeve. Girls: White oxford may have "Peter Pan" collar.
Logo shirt, purchased from ACS only.
All shirts will be worn tucked in on campus during school hours. Shirts will be buttoned appropriately.
Shirts worn under uniform shirts will be white only. Sleeve length will be same as or shorter than the uniform shirt.
Logo shirts are required for most of our ACS field trips, church functions, and community events.
Navy blue, burgundy or khaki (shade of tan) pleated skirt or A-line jumper or skirt. Skirts may be any length as long as they are no more than 2" above the kneecap. No form fitting skirts.

If hose/tights are worn, they must be white, natural colored or matching skirt color.
If belts are worn, they should be black or brown belts only.
No hats to be worn on campus during school hours, with the exception of those worn for warmth outside during appropriate times. (Recess, P.E.)
NO cargo pants, sagging pants, extra zippers, loops, zip-off legs, drawstrings, rivets, leg pockets, painter pants, etc. Tan jeans are not allowed.
No open-toed shoes. Shoes used in the gym shall be white soled or non marking sole.
Makeup must appear natural.
Only clear appearing nail polish is allowed.
The following will not be allowed at school or while students are under the authority of ACS.
1. Tops with undergarments showing, half-shirts or halter type tops. When student is standing normally, shirts should extend at least to the top of pants.
2. Garments that promote tobacco, alcohol, drugs or lifestyles which are in conflict with the ideas and goals of ACS
3. Any gang-like identity such as bandannas, heavy jewelry, hiked down or baggy trousers, tattoos, symbols or colors.
4. Facial hair that is not neatly trimmed and well groomed.
5. Hair of unnatural color, including the death black look.
6. Shaved heads for girls.
7. Hair that is not neatly trimmed and well groomed.
8. Jewelry or visible body piercing.
Uniform Violation Information
Students should be in appropriate uniform whenever they enter the building on a school day (during school hours). Uniform violations will be handled with an appropriate, escalating discipline procedure. Any changes or exceptions made in regards to the uniform policy will be communicated to the students and parents. Cooperation with the policy helps the school run efficiently. Administration has the authority to make decisions on questionable appearance not specifically addressed within the uniform policy, or pertaining to matters where questions of "appropriateness" arise.
Grades are issued after the end of each quarter. There are four quarters throughout the school year. Please see school calendar for dates.
Student evaluations are given periodically each quarter to inform parents of student progress.
Parent/ Teacher/ Student Conference:
Teachers and parents are a team – working together with students for the good of the student. Their goals are best achieved under friendly conferences and cooperative planning. Regular times are scheduled for conferences after the first and third quarter.
Parents are responsible to see that their student has the necessary supplies to carry on a study program. A list, which includes a suitable Bible, is available at registration. To assist in returning items to the proper owners, please be sure that the student’s name is on all items brought to school.
All textbooks are furnished by the school on a rental basis to the student. Excessive wear or damage to a book will bring an additional charge to a student. Individuals will be held financially responsible for lost books.
Arrival and Dismissal:
School will begin at 8:30 am each morning. Parents are asked not to bring their children before 8:00 a.m., unless arrangements are made with the Principal. School will dismiss at 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Friday, school will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. Students are expected to leave the school premises within 15 minutes of dismissal. All exceptions must be made through the Principal.
Leaving School Grounds:
Students may leave the school grounds during school hours only with specific written permission from the parent/guardian. Students may be picked up only by family members unless he/she has written permission from parent/guardian.
The school must maintain a sound financial program. Student charges must be paid at the designated times. Those needing financial assistance for their tuition and fees must fill out an application to the school board at registration. All patrons must pay the prescribed charges or those which have been arranged with the school board. Tuition must be paid IN ADVANCE on the first of each month. For example: The monthly payment for October is due October 1st. The last monthly payment is due May 1st. If the monthly payment is not received within 30 days of the due date, the student’s enrollment will be DISCONTINUED AUTOMATICALLY unless satisfactory financial arrangements have been made with the school board.

This is non-refundable, due and payable at registration: $270.00
$270.00 per student, per month, for nine months, grades K-8

How to Make Payments
Payments of school tuition can be mailed to the school address in check or money order form, or payments can be made to the Principal at the school.
To be eligible for the assisted student aid program, the parent must pay at least 20% of the student charges. The parent/guardian must also make a written application, giving monthly income, payment schedules, and a list of all outstanding debts.
Financial Entrance Policy
The following will be required before any student will be admitted to attend classes for the 2014-2015 school year:
1. All past due family accounts must be paid in full.
2. Entrance fee and first month’s tuition charges must be paid in full for each student.
3. In the case of Student Aid, a formal written application for aid must be submitted and approved by the school board. It will be the responsibility of the student’s parent/guardian to comply with these requirements at registration before the first day of school. The student will be sent home from school until these arrangements have been completed. Advance payments for entrance fees and tuition can be made to the school treasurer during the summer. Application forms for financial aid may be obtained from the School Treasurer, School Board Chairperson, or the Principal.
